Before You Start
Installing a sport style racing seat headrest is one of the simplest car upgrades you can do. It's a plug-in detachable design. No mechanic needed, no special tools, and it takes less than five minutes from start to finish.
Here's what you'll need:
- Your new sport style racing seat headrest
- Your car (parked, engine off)
- That's it. Seriously.
The Sport Style Racing Seat Headrest from Mohammed Lexus uses the standard dual-rod mounting system found in 95% of cars on Nigerian roads. If your current headrest has two metal rods that slide into your seat, you're good to go.
Step 1: Remove Your Factory Headrest
Every car headrest has a release mechanism. Here's how to find yours:
- Look at the base where the headrest rods enter the seat. You'll see one or two small buttons or clips.
- Press the release button while pulling the headrest upward. On most Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai models, there's a single button on one side of the base.
- Pull straight up with steady, even pressure. The headrest will slide out of the seat.
If your headrest feels stuck, don't force it. Look for a second release button on the opposite side. Some Mercedes and BMW models have two buttons that need to be pressed simultaneously.
Common Release Button Locations
- Toyota (Camry, Corolla, RAV4): Single button on the back of the seat, right side of the headrest post
- Honda (Civic, Accord, CR-V): Single button on the back, left side
- Mercedes, BMW: Two buttons, one on each side. Press both at the same time.
- Lexus, Hyundai, Kia: Single button, similar to Toyota placement
Step 2: Check the Rod Spacing
Before inserting your new headrest, compare the rod spacing:
- Hold the new headrest next to the holes in your seat
- Confirm the two metal rods align with the two holes
- The standard spacing is 12–14mm: our headrest fits this universal standard
If the spacing looks right (and it will for virtually all cars), you're ready to install.
Step 3: Insert the Racing Headrest
- Align the rods with the holes in your seat. The headrest should face forward. The contoured side goes toward the back of your head.
- Push down firmly until you hear a click. This means the locking mechanism has engaged.
- Adjust the height so the centre of the headrest aligns with the centre of your head (not your neck).
The headrest should never sit below your ears. If the centre of the headrest is at neck level, it can act as a fulcrum during a rear-end collision and cause more harm than good. Always position it at head height.
Step 4: Test the Fit
Sit in the driver's seat and check:
- Gap test: The back of your head should lightly touch the headrest without you leaning back. No more than two fingers of gap.
- Height check: The centre of the headrest should be level with the centre of your head.
- Stability check: Try wiggling the headrest. It should be firmly locked in place with no wobble.
Step 5: Enjoy the Upgrade
That's it. Five minutes, zero tools, and your car interior just went from factory standard to motorsport-inspired.
The Premium Racing Seat Headrest features:
- Carbon texture panel: durable, UV-resistant, doesn't crack in Lagos heat
- Reinforced contrast stitching: adds strength and a premium look
- High-density foam core: firm support that doesn't flatten over months
- Three finishes: Black/Red, Carbon, and Midnight to match your interior

Will it fit my car?
If your car has standard dual-rod headrest posts (two metal rods, 12-14mm spacing), yes. This covers Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Nissan, Mazda, and most other brands driven in Nigeria.
Can I install it on the passenger seat too?
Absolutely. The installation process is identical for any seat with standard headrest posts. Many customers buy two: one for the driver and one for the front passenger.
What about the back seats?
Back seats often have different headrest designs (shorter rods, different spacing). We recommend measuring first. The Premium Racing Seat Headrest is primarily designed for front seats.
Do I need a mechanic?
No. If you can pull a headrest out and push a new one in, you can do this installation. It's genuinely that simple.
